FIFA has released initial details on ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, starting June 11. Prices vary by match stage and seat category, beginning at $60, approximately $320 at current exchange rates. The pricing aims to accommodate an estimated 6.5 million fans across 104 matches.

The cheapest tickets apply to group-stage games in upper stadium sections. The highest prices are for the final, set for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. This reflects FIFA’s dynamic pricing model, adjusting costs based on demand.

The tournament will feature 48 teams for the first time, increasing the number of matches compared to previous editions. Ticket sales occur in phases, with the first draw held in September 2025, prioritizing applicants from 216 countries. Brazil ranks among the top countries in applications, alongside Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.

Opening match variations by host country

Opening match tickets show price differences across the host nations. In Canada, the lowest prices start at $1,892, while in Mexico, they begin at $1,971. In the U.S., minimum prices reach $2,984 for these games.

These variations relate to the capacity and location of selected stadiums. Mexico’s Azteca Stadium hosts the opening game, offering mid-range affordability. In Canada, venues in Toronto and Vancouver are adapted for large crowds.

Seat category details

Category 1 covers lower levels and parts of the second tiers in stadiums. This option provides close field views, with higher prices in knockout stages. Category 4 is limited to upper sections, offering budget-friendly options for early matches.

  • Category 1: Premium seats near the pitch, ideal for the final.
  • Category 2: Mid-range seats with good overall visibility.
  • Category 3: Balanced cost and proximity options.
  • Category 4: Upper sections, affordable for group stages.

These divisions follow FIFA’s safety and comfort standards. Preliminary maps show even distribution across the 16 venues.

Pricing for knockout stages

In the round of 16, tickets range from $666 to $3,545, depending on the category. This reflects growing anticipation for knockout matches. For the round of 16, prices rise from $906 to $4,743.

Quarterfinals start at $1,465, reaching $9,007 for premium seats. Semifinals begin at $2,238, with top prices at $14,816. The final spans $10,819 to $33,949, prioritizing central seats.

The dynamic pricing model allows real-time adjustments during sales. FIFA estimates 7.1 million seats will be available, including hospitality packages starting at $1,350.

Ticket purchasing process

The first sales phase, via lottery, ran from September 10 to 19, 2025. Selected applicants received exclusive purchase slots starting October 1. This phase handled over 1.5 million initial requests, focusing on team or stadium packages.

A second lottery phase begins in mid-November and runs through December. Fans can request tickets for specific matches after the group draw on December 5. The third phase opens for first-come, first-served purchases closer to the tournament.

Hospitality packages include perks like lounge access and transportation. An official resale platform, to be launched, aims to prevent secondary market fraud. Purchases accept Visa and Mastercard, with email confirmation.

Tournament expansion and logistics

The expanded 48-team format features 12 groups of four teams each. This results in 72 group-stage matches from June 11 to 27, 2026. Host nations play all group games in their territories, easing local access.

Sixteen stadiums were selected, including icons like AT&T Stadium in Dallas and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Venues support up to 80,000 spectators per game, with accessibility and sustainability upgrades. FIFA coordinates logistics across the three countries, including streamlined visa processes for fans.

The final at MetLife Stadium closes the event on July 19. Venues like Gillette Stadium in Boston will host semifinals, while Azteca Stadium recalls 1970 memories. The geographic spread requires early travel planning.

Affordable options for fans

Tickets starting at $320 focus on group-stage games with limited visibility. These options encourage broad attendance, especially in border-adjacent venues. Mileage programs, like American Airlines’, allow ticket redemption with points.

FIFA reserves portions for local residents at select venues. Inclusion policies aim to balance accessibility for high-demand events. International fans can prioritize multi-game city packages.
