The São Paulo Court granted a 69-day reduction in the nine-year sentence imposed on former player Robson de Souza, known as Robinho, convicted of gang rape in Italy in 2013. The decision, published on October 28, 2025 in the Diário de Justiça, considers educational activities carried out at the Dr. José Augusto Salgado Penitentiary, in Tremembé, in the interior of São Paulo. Robinho has been serving his sentence in Brazil since March 2024, after approval by the Superior Court of Justice. The benefit follows the Penal Execution Law, which allows time for study and reading as a form of resocialization.

The former athlete completed 11 courses with a total of 132 hours between April 2024 and January 2025, in addition to 464 hours of high school classes from July to December 2024. These efforts resulted in 49 days of relief. Another 20 days were granted for reading five books in the same period.

Case history in Italy

The crime took place in a nightclub in Milan, where Robinho and five other men were accused of sexual violence against an Albanian woman. The Italian court convicted the group in 2017, with a final sentence in 2022. Telephone interceptions supported the evidence.

Robinho denied the accusations, claiming consensuality. The case became final in Europe. Italy requested extradition, which Brazil denied.

Approval at the STJ occurred in March 2024, determining an initial closed regime. The Federal Supreme Court upheld the decision in August 2025.

Serving sentence in Tremembé

Robinho arrived at Penitentiary II in March 2024. The unit houses inmates with notorious cases, with collective routines. He shares a common cell and follows standard schedules.

The defense requested transfers to other cities, but the requests were denied. The place maintains a programbut from the State Professionalizing Foundation.

In a video from the Taubaté Community Council, Robinho described the routine without privileges. Family visits take place on weekends.

Prison routine and resocialization
