An intercity bus lost control this Monday morning (17) on the side of Rodovia Raposo Tavares, at km 17, towards the capital, in São Paulo. The vehicle had a braking system failure and hit 15 cars and two motorcycles, totaling 16 vehicles involved in the accident. Twelve people were injured, two seriously, two moderately and eight lightly.
Images from the bus’s internal cameras recorded the moment in which the driver tries to regain control while passengers are thrown inside the bus. The vehicle was traveling at 42 km/h when the collisions began. The accident occurred around 7:30 am and disrupted traffic in the region.
The Ecovias Raposo Castello concessionaire provides roadside assistance. Teams from Samu and the Fire Department provided assistance to the victims, who were taken to nearby hospitals.

Accident details
The bus was still crowded during rush hour. Many passengers were standing in the aisle.
The driver made sudden maneuvers with the steering wheel to try to avoid major collisions. Despite efforts, the vehicle climbed onto the sidewalk after touching the curb.
The bus only stopped after knocking on the entrance gate of a ccondominium close to the highway.
Victims and assistance
Two people suffered serious injuries. Two others had moderate injuries.
Eight passengers suffered minor injuries. All victims received treatment at the scene.
Samu medical teams and firefighters worked on the rescue. The injured were taken to hospitals in the region.
Investigation ongoing
The Civil Police opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident. Technical examination was carried out on the bus.
The Public Security Secretariat confirmed that the driver lost control before the collisions. The case is treated as a wrongful bodily injury.
Traffic consequences
The pileup caused congestion for several kilometers on the riverfront. Lanes were closed for around three hours.
Drivers faced slow traffic in the capital throughout the morning. Traffic returned to normal in the early afternoon.
Vehicle maintenance
The company responsible for the bus was notified to present documentation. The expert report will indicate the extent of the mechanical failure.
