A 16-year-old teen, identified as Isaac Augusto de Brito Vilhena de Moraes, died Friday night (17) after being stabbed during a cell phone robbery between the 112 and 113 Sul blocks in Brasília’s Asa Sul. The student from Brasília’s Military School was playing volleyball at a sports court when approached by a group of teens who stole his phone. While trying to recover it, he was stabbed in the chest and taken to the Base Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Military Police’s swift action led to the suspects’ location hours later in Paranoá, using the stolen phone’s tracking. Seven minors were detained and taken to the Child and Adolescent Precinct (DCA I) in Asa Norte. Three were identified as directly involved in the act equivalent to felony murder and remain in custody.

Another teen with Isaac had his phone stolen but was unharmed. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in a busy residential area of the capital.

Suspects located in Paranoá

The Military Police used geolocation tracking from one of the stolen phones, leading to Paranoá’s block 6. There, officers found five teens who had discarded the phones in nearby bushes.

The minors, all Paranoá residents, were detained on a bus used to flee Asa Sul. During the approach, they provided information about two others involved, including the stabber.

Based on these statements, police proceeded to another Paranoá location and detained the remaining two. The seven were transported in separate vehicles to avoid contact.

The operation lasted about three hours and recovered all stolen items. None of the detainees resisted the officers.

Procedures after detention

Three of the seven teens were sent to the Criminalistics Institute for initial forensics. They were then transferred to the Integrated Service Nucleus (NAI), awaiting socio-educational measures.

The other four gave statements at DCA I and were released to guardians. Police confirmed they were elsewhere during the robbery and only acted as initial informants.

The knife used in the crime remains under investigation. Officers searched nearby Paranoá areas but have not found the weapon yet.

The Child and Adolescent Precinct took over the case as an act equivalent to felony murder. Forensics are analyzing evidence collected at the robbery scene.

Victim’s profile and crime context

Isaac Augusto de Brito Vilhena de Moraes was a Brasília Military School student, active on social media, sharing school and sports activities. Relatives confirmed he regularly visited the 112 Sul court to play volleyball with classmates.

The park where the robbery occurred is named after Maria Cláudia Dell’Isola, a 2004 murder victim, highlighting the area’s vulnerability history. Residents noted the court attracts youth groups in the afternoon, though violent incidents are rare.

Witnesses called Samu immediately after the stabbing. A passerby near the 112 Sul metro station helped control the bleeding until paramedics arrived.

The Fire Department provided on-site care within ten minutes. Isaac’s family arrived before the ambulance and followed to the hospital.

Police action and recovered items

  • Police used a tracking app to locate the phone’s signal in Paranoá.
  • Five suspects were detained at a sports court, with phones discarded 50 meters away.
  • Two additional minors were located based on the group’s information.
  • All seven confessed partial involvement during initial questioning.
  • Recovered items included both smartphones, undamaged.

Lieutenant Magalhães, leading the operation, praised the PMDF teams’ coordination. Patrol vehicles blocked Paranoá access during the search.

Officers recorded statements in audio to streamline the process. The PMDF notified the Civil Police after the detentions.

History of robberies in the central region

Asa Sul has seen a 15% rise in cell phone thefts over the past six months, per DF’s Public Security Secretariat data. Areas like 112 Sul account for 20% of cases in Asa Norte and Sul combined.

In August, Ceilândia reported two felony murders in 24 hours, with victims stabbed in similar robberies. Those cases involved minor groups and led to five detentions.

The Civil Police increased patrols in sports parks after these incidents. Nighttime patrolling doubled in Asa Sul since September.

Authorities recommend enabling tracking apps on devices. Educational campaigns distribute guidance in public schools.

Medical care details

Samu received the call at 6:40 p.m. and dispatched an advanced unit from 112 Sul. Isaac had severe chest bleeding upon hospital arrival.

Doctors performed emergency surgery at the Base Hospital around 7:30 p.m. Despite efforts, the victim went into cardiac arrest 40 minutes after admission.

Preliminary reports indicate the stab punctured a pulmonary artery. The trauma team mobilized four professionals at reception.

The death was confirmed at 8:15 p.m. The body remains at the IML for a full autopsy this Saturday (18).
